How to Turnaround Your Interview Luck - Melissa Llarena

How to Turnaround Your Interview Luck How to Turnaround Your Interview Luck If I told you that ALL of my interview coaching clients thank me for teaching them this one game-changing strategy then would you consider trying it out yourself? The proof is in the pudding. This strategy is embedded within my testimonials. It’s helped Kris, Jess, Paul, Thierry…I could go on and on.The strategy is thisResearch your interviewers and prepare ahead of time three questions that you can ask each one of them based on what you know about their professional/personal experiences.*The assumption here is that you know who you are interviewing with. Ask me about how to prepare questions when you do not know the first and last names of your interviewers. What I’ve seen most professionals do is ask questions that can be answered by practically anyone in any function within a company. However, that’s not good enough. You won’t leave a memorable impression. We are in a buyer’s market with access to global talent. You can consider this tip your edge. Here’s an example: if you learn that one of your interviewers is a savvy corporate development leader in the technology space then craft a thoughtful question that this interviewer would be delighted to answer during the last few minutes of an interview.  Ask him about his learnings having worked in corporate development for Facebook. Probe into which ones he has found to be invaluable to his success today as the leader of the corporate development team within Airbnb.Think about it. Wouldn’t YOU  appreciate someone tapping into your area of expertise during an interview if you were an interviewer? You’d get to share your ideas. You’d see that the job candidate did his homework. This one tip has “surprised and delighted” decision-makers in the past and I encourage you to use the time at the end of the interview to continue to sell yourself. You’ll stand out if you come prepared with relevant questions â€" interestingly most professionals are not doing this simple thing…and it’s the first thing that I require when partnering with my one-on-one clients.I tailor 15-plus meaty (targeted, strategic, and insightful) interview questions for all of my clients to complete prior to a mock interview with me and I always require them to write out the three questions they’d prepare for each anticipated interviewer its that important and effective. This powerful tweak can make the difference between you becoming the most desirable job candidate vs. being the runner up.
